Pyrolysis & High Carbon Black from TDF Chips

We sell TDF chips to pyrolysis plants โ€” the ideal feedstock for producing oil, high carbon black (rCB), steel, and gas through advanced thermal decomposition.

What Is Tire Pyrolysis?

Pyrolysis is a thermal decomposition process that breaks down waste tire rubber in the absence of oxygen at temperatures between 400โ€“700ยฐC. Unlike burning, pyrolysis converts tires into four valuable products: pyrolysis oil, high carbon black (rCB), steel wire, and syngas.

TDF chips (tire-derived fuel) are an ideal feedstock for pyrolysis plants โ€” our standard 2" or smaller TDF chips can be fed directly into pyrolysis reactors to produce high-quality recovered carbon black (rCB), pyrolysis oil, and steel. This creates a closed-loop system where waste tires become valuable industrial raw materials.

This technology represents the next evolution in tire recycling โ€” going beyond shredding and TDF to extract maximum value from every tire. A single passenger tire can yield approximately 2โ€“3 gallons of oil, 6โ€“8 lbs of high carbon black, and 2โ€“3 lbs of recoverable steel.

Eco Tire Solutions sells TDF chips to pyrolysis plants as feedstock. Our 2" or smaller chips are the ideal input material for producing high-quality recovered carbon black. Contact us to discuss TDF chip supply for your pyrolysis operation.

๐Ÿ”ฅ TDF Chips โ†’ High Carbon Black

Our standard TDF chips (2" or smaller) are an excellent feedstock for pyrolysis plants. When fed into a pyrolysis reactor, TDF chips produce high-quality recovered carbon black (rCB) โ€” a valuable industrial material used in rubber manufacturing, coatings, and pigments. We sell TDF chips to pyrolysis plants as feedstock โ€” contact us to discuss supply volume and pricing.

What Pyrolysis Produces from Waste Tires

๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ

Pyrolysis Oil (Tire-Derived Oil)

A liquid fuel similar to diesel that can be used in industrial boilers, furnaces, and generators. Can also be refined into higher-grade fuels or used as a chemical feedstock.

Yield: ~40-45% of tire weight

โšซ

High Carbon Black (Recovered rCB)

A fine black powder used in rubber manufacturing, ink production, pigments, and as a reinforcing filler. Recovered carbon black (rCB) from tire pyrolysis replaces virgin petroleum-derived carbon black in many applications. TDF chips are an ideal feedstock for producing high-quality rCB.

Yield: ~30-35% of tire weight

๐Ÿ”ฉ

Steel Wire

The steel belts and bead wire from tires are recovered intact and sold as scrap steel. Recycled steel requires 75% less energy to produce than virgin steel.

Yield: ~10-15% of tire weight

๐Ÿ’จ

Syngas (Non-Condensable Gas)

A combustible gas produced during pyrolysis that can be recycled back into the system to fuel the pyrolysis reactor itself โ€” making the process partially self-sustaining.

Yield: ~10-15% of tire weight

Why Pyrolysis Matters for Tire Recycling

  • โœ“Processes tires that can't be used for TDF or crumb rubber โ€” captures value from every tire
  • โœ“Produces multiple revenue streams from a single feedstock (oil, carbon black, steel, gas)
  • โœ“Syngas can power the reactor โ€” reducing external energy costs
  • โœ“Recovered carbon black (rCB) replaces petroleum-derived virgin carbon black
  • โœ“Pyrolysis oil can substitute for diesel in industrial applications
  • โœ“Steel recovery adds an additional revenue stream
  • โœ“Smaller environmental footprint than incineration or landfilling
  • โœ“Supports circular economy goals โ€” turning waste into raw materials
  • โœ“Complements existing TDF and crumb rubber operations
  • โœ“Growing global demand for recovered carbon black and pyrolysis oil

Pyrolysis vs. TDF vs. Crumb Rubber

Pyrolysis complements โ€” rather than replaces โ€” existing tire recycling methods. Here's how the three main processing paths compare:

Eco Tire Solutions is actively developing pyrolysis capabilities as part of our long-term growth strategy. As we expand our tire processing operations in South Carolina and Georgia, pyrolysis represents a natural next step โ€” allowing us to extract maximum value from every tire we collect.

Our current operations (TDF production, crumb rubber, rubber mulch, and sidewall sales) provide the feedstock pipeline that a pyrolysis plant needs to operate efficiently. Adding pyrolysis to our processing capabilities would create additional revenue streams โ€” particularly from high carbon black (rCB) sales โ€” and further reduce our dependence on any single end market.

If you're an investor, technology partner, or a pyrolysis plant operator looking for a reliable TDF chip supply, contact Jack Leahy directly.
